CISC/CPMA Standard 2-75
This Standard is produced through the joint efforts of the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction and the
Canadian Paint Manufacturers Association. As both of these industry associations are vitally interested in
assisting the construction industry to produce engineered products of the appropriate quality and economy to
specifications which can be readily selected by purchasers and consulting engineers, they have joined forces
in the writing of the Standard.
This Standard is based on principles which are NOT new to the art of standards writing for engineered
products, but are novel in the field of paint for structural steel. Two of the more important concepts are; 1)
this Standard is a performance Standard as opposed to a formulation Standard, 2) it has been written in a
manner which should allow relatively clear definition of the commercial obligations of the specifier or
purchaser, the paint manufacturer, and the structural steel fabricator or painting contractor.
This Standard is intended to cover the selection and application of a paint that is economical from the point of
view of the combined cost of materials, of surface preparation and of application.
